Special Character
A Brief Statement for the Information of Parents
As an Integrated School, St. Joseph's, to which you have chosen to send your child, conforms to the standards set by the State in such matters as buildings, maintenance and equipment, staffing, administration, curriculum and teaching standards.
As a Catholic School the distinctive character of St.Joseph's is evident in:
This school aims to:
The Catholic school tries to create a climate in which the pupil will gradually mature as a faith person and be able to take up the privileges and responsibilities of a baptised Christian. We are pleased to welcome you and your family to St. Joseph's School.
Our school has a special character because it is part of the Catholic Community and shares in its life. We seek to educate the whole child and believe that we can assist you in the care, development and nurture of your child's faith.
In the context of Parish life and worship, the role of St. Joseph's School is to contribute to the spiritual, academic and social growth of the children of the parish. The goal is a responsible, well-adjusted Catholic man or woman.
Religious Education Programme
This, of course, forms a vital part of the school day with all classes participating in regular religious instruction. Prayers play an important part of each day and worship, either within classes or as a whole school gathering or prayer time, is a regular component of the programme. One of the teachers' positions is allocated specifically to oversee the Religious Education Programme throughout the school. The Family Whanau Booklet gives a background to the programme being taught. Often a teaching point or lesson is an integral part of the normal school day and is not immediately recognised as a religious lesson. This is available from the office.
